10 Hindu yatrees killed by gunmen in occupied Kashmir

Yatrees were returning from a shrine when their bus was fired upon, say police.

SRINAGAR: At least 10 Hindu yatrees were killed and 33 others injured when gunmen opened fire on their bus in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Local police said that the incident occured at a time when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had just took oath of office for third term in New Delhi.

The police said that the yatrees were returning from a shrine at Riasi in occupied Kashmir when their bus was fired upon. As a result, the bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch.

The police in the area with the help of the local people retrieved the victims from the ravine at night. The injured were later shifted to hospital.

After the incident, police and security forces in the area launched a combing operation and tightened security.
