SANA’A: The Israeli military carried out heavy airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, late Thursday night, striking at least 11 Houthi (Ansar Allah) targets, including weapons depots, intelligence compounds, and military camps.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the strikes also destroyed the Houthis’ General Staff headquarters and key security installations. Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the operation on social media, stating: “We struck powerful blows against the Houthi terrorist organization in Sana’a.”

The assault came a day after Houthi rebels launched a drone attack on Israel’s southern port city of Eilat (Umm al-Rashrash), which injured more than 20 people.

International media reported that the airstrikes coincided with the broadcast of a recorded speech by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi. Witnesses confirmed that explosions shook the southern and western parts of Sana’a during the attacks.

The escalation marks a significant widening of hostilities, with Israel directly targeting Houthi positions in Yemen in retaliation for cross-border strikes.
