13 FIA officials sacked after probe into Greece boat tragedy

ISLAMABAD: As many as three officers and 10 officials of the Federal Investigation Agency have been sacked after an inquiry found them involved in facilitating job seekers to go abroad illegally, of whom 44 Pakistanis lost their lives in a boat collapse near Greece recently.

According to a spokesman for the FIA, one inspector, two sub-inspectors, two head constables and eight constables have been dismissed from service.

He said that the FIA director general has also ordered to stop the promotion of three constables. The convicted officials were posted at Faisalabad airport.

According to the FIA, 37 personnel have already been dismissed from service.

DG FIA Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir said that there is no place for negligent and negligent officials in the organization, disciplinary action will be taken against the officials involved.

He said that the purpose of departmental accountability was to clear the institution of black sheep involved in corruption and other irregularities. The officials involved in the exploitation of innocent citizens do not deserve any concession, he said, adding human trafficking will be eliminated only through the process of accountability in the institution.
