PESHAWAR: A Chitrali youth committed suicide after killing a young woman while travelling in a rickshaw in Peshawar on Saturday, police said.
The incident occured at Aman Chowk near the American consulate located in the limits of police station East of Peshawar.
Police identified the youth as Gulbadin, son of Zarbe Ali, resident of Chitral. The deceased woman was identified as Shakila Bibi, 25, daughter of Zar Amin of Chitral.
The police quotted the rickshaw driver as saying that the man and the woman exchanged harsh words in the rickshaw after which the man shot the woman and then pointed the pistol at himself.
The rickshaw driver drove the two injured to hospital but the couple died before reaching the hospital.
Shakila’s sister, Nasima, reported that Gulbadin had proposed to her sister, but she had rebuffed his advances, leading to the incident. He had been threatening her, and the family had been warned about his ominous intentions.
DSP Amjad Khan said the police shifted the dead bodies to hospital for postmortem and launched an investigation into the incident.
