PM forms body to enhance performance of Pakistani embassies

Eight-member subcommittee formed on direction of Prime Minister is headed by MNA Bilal Azhar Kiani.

ISLAMABAD: On the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a special subcommittee has been formed tasked with enhancing the efficiency of Pakistan’s embassies and high commissions etc., abroad.

Member of the National Assembly Bilal Azhar Kiani has been appointed as the convener of the eight-member subcommittee.

The first meeting of the subcommittee will be held soon. Additional Secretaries of Interior, Commerce, Finance and Information and Broadcasting, Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Affairs will be members of the sub-committee. The Joint Secretary of the Institutional Reforms Cell of the Cabinet Division has also been appointed as a member of the subcommittee.

The subcommittee will review the overall performance, structure, and problems faced by Pakistani embassies. It will call Pakistani envoys individually and take suggestions from them. 

It shall examine the nature of work of the embassies and the number of diplomatic staff in any country. The subcommittee will suggest measures to improve the efficiency of Pakistani embassies and reform them according to the situation. It committee will set targets for Pakistani embassies in line with national needs and objectives.

It will suggest measures to enhance the performance of Pakistani embassies and diplomats. The Pakistani envoys abroad have been directed to provide full support to the subcommittee.
