ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has sent 42 suspects to jail on judicial remand in connection with protests that erupted after the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader.
The protests reportedly involved widespread public unrest and damage to both public and private property.
According to official reports, the protesters engaged in acts that resulted in significant property damage.
The case was heard by Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad, where police presented 48 arrested individuals after completing their initial physical remand.
During the hearing, the court ordered that 42 of the suspects be sent to jail on judicial remand to await further proceedings, while six individuals were formally discharged from the case due to insufficient evidence or lack of direct involvement.
Prior to the court’s decision, the police had requested an additional four days of physical remand to continue interrogation and investigation. However, the court declined the request and directed that the suspects be taken into custody under judicial supervision.
The case has been officially registered at Secretariat Police Station Islamabad under anti-terrorism provisions along with other relevant criminal charges, including vandalism, property damage, and public disorder. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with further legal proceedings expected in the coming days.
