ISLAMABAD: As many as 446 outlets of the Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan have been closed by the federal government.
Officials in the government said that the move was part of the steps being taken by the government to decrease its expenses. They said that most of the utility stores that were closed were located in rural areas.
They said that outlets showing losses were closed but no staff members had been sacked.
Earlier this year, the government had stopped subsidy to the Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan for providing basic food items such as sugar, pulses and ghee.
The government also plans to privatize the Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan or close it down altogether.
