46 Dead, 3.5 Million Affected by Floods in Punjab: PDMA

LAHORE: Director General of the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, has said that the death toll from floods in Punjab has risen to 46, while more than 3.5 million people have been affected.

Around 30,000 displaced persons are currently staying in relief camps.

According to Kathia, floods have so far impacted 3,944 villages, while rescue teams have managed to evacuate over 1.49 million people from affected areas.

He said that water at Qadirabad is expected to inundate surrounding areas again, and once it reaches Jhang, the Chenab River’s flow will create further challenges. The Sutlej River has remained in a state of high flood for the past two months, with a flow of 319,000 cusecs recorded at Ganda Singh.

The Ravi River has also seen an increase in water flow at Jassar, adding more pressure downstream. A massive 900,000 cusec flood wave is expected to enter Sindh during the night between September 6 and 7.
