55 Chinese sailors die after nuclear submarine gets stuck in trap

Submarine captain among 21 other officers aming dead, intelligence report says.

At least 55 Chinese sailors are feared dead when their nuclear submarine got entangled in a trap laid for foreign vessels in the Yellow Sea, according to foreign media reports.

The soldiers died due to a catastrophic malfunction in the submarine’s oxygen systems, resulting in the poisoning of the entire crew, according to a UK intelligence report.

The report said that the submarine encountered a “chain and anchor” trap meant for Western sub-surface vessels.

The captain of the Chinese PLA Navy submarine is understood to be among the deceased, as were 21 other officers.

China has denied the incident took place. It also appears Beijing refused to request international assistance for its stricken submarine.
