RAWALPINDI: Police here said that accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir was not the target of a firing incident in the Airport police area on Wednesday evening.
Earlier, there were media reports that the judge had come under armed attack while returning from Adiala jail after hearing a corruption case against former prime minister Imran Khan.
According to the media reports, a lone gunman opened fire near the car of Bashir at PAF Chowk located in the Airport police area. The gunman was arrested and identified as Shayan Ali.

After the firing, panic gripped the area and traffic was jammed. However, the police clarified that the judge had already crossed the area when the firing incident occured.
The gunman was going along with some relatives when he entered into an altercation with them and opened fire into the air. The judge had already crossed the spot, the police added.
It may be noted that judge Muhammad Bashir has been hearing corruption cases against top politicians, including Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif as well as Asif Ali Zardari in the past.
