General Yasin Zia, head of the Afghan Freedom Front and a former Afghan army chief, claimed that armed resistance against the Taliban was gaining momentum and that the situation had moved beyond the regime’s ability to control.
Zia accused the Taliban of relying on self-proclaimed supporters and propaganda networks to protect their declining reputation. He alleged that certain groups were attempting to frighten Afghans about conditions that could follow the Taliban’s rule, arguing that the current regime could hardly be worse.
He also accused the Taliban of corruption, alleging that the cost of road construction projects had been inflated tenfold under the guise of development. He further accused the regime of customs evasion and looting along highways, questioning how authorities could claim to govern while educated and qualified Afghans were excluded from leadership.
The comments come amid reports of growing political and internal divisions in Afghanistan and increasing resistance to Taliban rule.
