Haqqani quits Afghan cabinet as differences in Taliban grow

KABUL: Afghanistan’s Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani has resigned from his post as differences in the Taliban have increased.

According to Afghan media reports, Sirajuddin Haqqani sent his resignation to the head of the Afghan Taliban, Haibatullah Akhundzada, which he accepted.

The internal differences of the Taliban leadership were said to be the reason Haqqani’s long absence from discharging the responsibilities of the ministry. These differences have now led to his resignation.

According to media reports, there are also differences between the Haqqani Network and the Taliban’s central leadership on the issue of women’s rights.

Media reported that there was no statement from the Taliban government regarding Sirajuddin Haqqani’s resignation.

On the other hand, Haqqani’s resignation from the Afghan Taliban has not been confirmed or denied.

The previous day, Haqqani had visited Khost province and offered Friday prayers where he also met with citizens.
