Afghan team crumbles against S. Africa in semi-final

South Africa win match by nine wickets in 8.4 overs

TRINIDAD: South Africa outclassed Afghanistan in the semi-final of the Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket Tournament on Thursday.

Afghanistan were all out for just 56 runs in the 12 overs against South Africa in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.

In reply, South Africa chased the target of 57 runs in just 8.4 overs for the loss of one wicket and reached the final.

Afghan team won the toss and decided to bat first but its players were sent back to pavilion in 11.5 overs with the score of just 56 runs.

Only Asmatullah could score 10 runs while some of the batsmen were sent back for duck.

Marco Jansen’s three-wicket burst with the new ball essentially derailed the batting line-up of Afghanistan who got bowled out just 56 runs in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.

The second semi-final of the tournament will be played later today between India and England. The winners of the semi-final will play the final of the event at Bridge Town on June 29.

The Afghan team was the second best team from Group C, defeating New Zealand, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.

In Super-8, Afghanistan beat Australia for the first time across formats before qualifying for the semifinals following a win over Bangladesh.

Neither South Africa nor Afghanistan have made it to the T20 World Cup final before.
