Aid convoy to Kurram attacked, six terrorists shot dead
One security official martyred; heli service to airlift patients suspended, says MS.
PESHAWAR: Terrorists on Thursday attacked an aid convoy going from Tal Cantonment to the restive Kurram district of Khyber Pakthunkhwa, as a result of which one official was martyred and six terrorists were killed by security forces.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Karam, the terrorists attacked the third relief convoy going from Tal to Kurram at Bagan area with rockets and opened also opened firing.
He said three vehicles in the convoy were damaged in the attack. Six terrorists were killed and 10 security personnel were injured in the attack. Earlier, 35 freight trains were dispatched in the first phase of the aid supply to the restive Kurram, which included medicines, vegetables, fruits and other food items.
A large number of police, army and CRPF personnel have been deployed in the area. Meanwhile, the helicopter service for the transfer of patients from Kurmam has been closed for 10 days and patients are facing severe difficulties.
The medical superintendent of District Headquarters Hospital Kurram Dr. Mir Hussain Jan said that the helicopter service to bring medicines and transfer patients had been closed for 10 days. He said that a letter had been sent to the district administration for the resumption of the helicopter service. The MS added that the district administration had been requested to transfer 74 patients needing emergency treatment to Peshawar.
He said under the current situation, there are no signs of transferring patients by road. In this regard, Minister for Religious Affairs had claimed that helicopter service to Kurram district was continuing.
