Air Pollution Continues to Plague Lahore and Other Cities in Punjab

LAHORE: Air pollution remains a serious concern in Lahore and various other cities across Punjab.

According to environmental monitoring websites, Lahore continues to top the list of the most polluted cities, with an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 331 recorded.

Other cities in the province are also experiencing hazardous air quality. Kasur recorded an AQI of 327, Narowal reached 313, and Sheikhupura recorded 292 particulate matter levels, indicating extremely unhealthy air conditions for residents.

According to the global environmental monitoring website, Lahore ranks sixth among the most polluted cities worldwide, while Karachi stands at 14th place.

The severe smog and poor visibility have forced authorities to close the M-1 Motorway from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Burhan, highlighting the immediate dangers of the current pollution levels.

The persistent air pollution across Punjab has raised concerns among health officials and environmentalists, urging both short-term emergency measures and long-term policy interventions to reduce emissions and improve air quality in urban areas.
