KARACHI: The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has issued a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) announcing the temporary closure of several air routes in the Lahore and Karachi Flight Information Regions (FIRs) in view of the evolving regional security situation.

According to the NOTAM, selected airspace sectors in the Lahore and Karachi FIRs will remain closed for two days on January 14 and 15 at different times.

The decision has been taken due to aerial exercises being conducted by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), which is currently on full alert amid heightened monitoring of the country’s airspace.

The PAA stated that fighter aircraft exercises will take place daily between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm in specific sectors of the Lahore and Karachi FIRs.

During this period, commercial flights have been advised to exercise caution, and pilots have been instructed to use alternate routes to avoid the restricted airspace.

Aviation authorities have emphasized that these measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring the safety of both military operations and civilian air traffic.

Flight operations at major airports, including Lahore and Karachi, may experience temporary disruptions as a result of the airspace restrictions.
