MUZAFFARABAD: The apex court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday suspended an ordinance recently issued by the president of Azad Kashmir on holding of rallies.
The ordinance promulgated by the Azad Kashmir president had linked holding of rallies with permission from deputy commissioner by the organizer at least one week in advance. Moreover, the ordinance had stated that any unregistered political party or any other organization had no right to hold any public gathering.
The ordinance was challenged in the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir. Hearing the petition, a full court headed by Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Saeed Akram suspended the ordinance.
Awami Action Committee had already called a wheel jam strike against the ordinary on December 5th. All political parties and bar associations have already rejected the draconic ordinance.
