ISLAMABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has completed the registration of three new political parties, enabling them to take part in upcoming elections with their respective electoral symbols.
According to the Election Commission, the “Jammu and Kashmir Awami Dast-o-Bazu” party has been formally registered as a political party. The “Qaumi Itehad Party Azad Jammu and Kashmir” has also been granted registration. In addition, the registration of Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto) Azad Jammu and Kashmir has been completed.
The Election Commission said the registration process for these parties was carried out in accordance with the judgment of the High Court and the Elections Act 2020.
It also announced a 10-day extension in the deadline for submission of applications for registration of new political parties in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The new deadline has been extended until June 10, 2026.
Political parties seeking registration have been given additional time to complete their documentation in line with Election Commission rules. The commission directed aspiring parties to submit their applications along with all required documents within the extended timeframe.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission dismissed rumours regarding the cancellation of registration of 33 political parties, terming them misleading and baseless. It clarified that no political party’s registration has been cancelled.
A spokesperson for the commission said that earlier registrations were concluded in light of a High Court judgment, while the current registration process is being conducted under the court’s directives and the Elections Act 2020.
He added that the Election Commission is committed to holding free, fair, and transparent elections, and that all legal requirements are being completed in a timely manner to strengthen the electoral system.
