LAHORE: Renowned singer Ali Zafar has won a defamation case against Meesha Shafi, with a Lahore sessions court imposing a fine of 5 million rupees on Shafi.
According to reports, Meesha Shafi had accused Ali Zafar of harassment, after which Zafar filed a defamation lawsuit against her. The court ruled in favor of Ali Zafar and issued a significant financial penalty against Shafi.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court had also upheld restrictions on Meesha Shafi regarding making statements on social media. Her request to lift the ban was rejected.
Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad stated in the detailed verdict that while freedom of expression is a fundamental right, it is not absolute, and it cannot be used to harm someone’s dignity and reputation.
