Amjad Sabiri’s alleged killer arrested after seven years

Suspect also confesses to killing four Rangers and two army men, says CTD.

KARACHI: The suspected killer of popular Qawwal Amjad Sabiri has been arrested over seven years after his murder, in the city of Karachi, it emerged on Tuesday. 

The Counter- Terrorism Department said that the suspected murderer was rounded up on a tip-off from Patel Para locality of the city.

The CTD said Qasim Rasheed, a terrorist affiliated with a terror outfit, had murdered Sabiri through his accomplices identified as Asim and Ishaq. 

“CTD’s LJ (Lashkar-i-Jhangvi) cell in-charge carried out an action in Patel Para and arrested Hafiz Qasim Rasheed alias Bilal and recovered hand grenade and unlicenced 30-bore pistol along with six bullets from his custody,” the CTD said in a statement.

During interrogation, the suspect also confessed to killing four Rangers personnel and two army men in two separate attacks.  The CTD said arms and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the suspect.

It may be recalled that unknown reasons shot dead Amjad Sabiri on June 22, 2016, in  Karachi.
