QUETTA: Another wet spell brought by western winds has swept through the province of Balochistan bringing routine life to a standstill.
According to reports, six people have died in separate rain-related incidents in the province in the last 24 hours. A few weeks earlier, large scale damages had been reported when heavy rains battered the province.
According to Met Office, different parts of the province have received heavy rain and windstorm. In many areas, rainwater entered houses and other buildings. Roads and highways have been blocked while in many towns bridges have also been washed away
According to the Met Office, Quetta received 12 millimetres of rain, Qalat and Makran 11.2mm and Khuzdar 6mm of rain. In these areas, low lying towns have been submerged in rainwater and people have shifted to safer places.
After flooding, Makran Coastal Highway has been blocked at scores of points and hundreds of vehicles were stranded in different areas. The Met Office said that the rains in Balochistan continued and may also affect other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the PDMA Khyber Pakthunkhwa has issued an alert for flash floodings in nine districts of the province including Swat, Dir, Kohistan and Chitral Lower and Upper.
Rain was also reported from different parts of Punjab including Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday morning.
