Another resolution lands in Senate for timely elections
JI's Mushtaq Ahmed submit resolution after 14 members of Senate a day earlier passed a resolution seeking delay to Feb 8 election.
ISLAMABAD: A day after the Senate passed a resolution calling for the delay in the Feb 8 elections, another resolution was filed in the house calling for timely elections in the country.
The resolution was submitted to the Senate Secretariat by Jamaat Islami Senotor Mushtaq Ahmed. However, it’s not clear when the house will take it up as the session of the Senate has been prorogued.
This resolution stated that the elections had already been delayed and further delay would be detrimental to the democratic process in the country.
The resolution by the JI senator was filed a day after 14 members of the Senate on Friday managed to pass a resolution calling for the delay in the Feb 8 elections due to security concerns and cold weather in the country.
The resolution was passed even though the house lacked qorum. The passage of the resolution was severely criticized by political parties and others.
They said though the Senate gad no say in the holding of elections, as a democratic institution it should not back such a resolution.
