RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir on Friday warned that no intolerance or extremism by any party or individual would be tolerated against anyone, especially against minorities and vulnerable segments of society.
Speaking to a group of religious leaders and scholars at the GHQ, he said, “Pakistan belongs to Pakistanis without any regards of their affiliation with religion, provincial, tribal, linguistic, ethnic, sectarian or any other distinction.” He said use of force and armed action by any militia, entity or group other than the state was unacceptable.
The ulema said Islam is a religion of peace and harmony and any distorted interpretations of religion by certain entities was for their vested interests.
The army chief praised the role of ulema in harnessing youth towards understanding of Quran and Sunnah and character building alongside other academic knowledge and technical skills.
The ulema supported repatriation of illegal foreigners, implementation of one document regime, anti-smuggling and anti-hoarding measures and anti-power theft drive.
