PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday said it has put in place all arrangements for holding general elections on February 8 (Thursday).
It said iver 92,000 polling stations have been set up for the national and provincial assembly seats across the country in which more than 120 million voters will use their right to franchise.
Out of the 92600 polling stations, 41,000 joint male and female stations, 25,000 are for male and 24,000 for women voters.
A total of 5,121 candidates are in the race for the National Assembly seats. These include 4,807 male, 312 female and two transgenders.
The elections will be held on 266 general seats of National Assembly and 593 provincial assembly seats.
The caretaker government has approved the deployment of army for security of the polling stations across the country to assist the police and other law enforcement agencies.
Public holidays have been announced for educational institutions where polling stations have been set up and teachers will perform election duty on February 8.
