NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar has stated that India has resorted to provocative and irresponsible behavior driven by political motives, posing a serious threat to peace and stability in South Asia.

Speaking at a briefing held in New York for ambassadors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, Ambassador Asim emphasized that India’s aggressive posture is escalating tensions in the region, a development that should alarm the international community.

According to Pakistan’s mission at the UN, member states of the OIC expressed full solidarity and support for the government and people of Pakistan during the session. They stressed the need to promote diplomacy to ensure lasting peace in the region.

The member states also reaffirmed that the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be resolved in a just and peaceful manner, in accordance with UN Security Council and OIC resolutions, to pave the way for enduring stability and prosperity in South Asia.

Pakistan’s strong stance comes at a time when alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir are once again drawing international attention.
