The attack took place near Kund Umarani in Khad Kocha as the minister was returning to Quetta after attending an Independence Day ceremony at the Deputy Commissioner Qalat’s office.
According to the minister, the attackers were hiding in orchards on both sides of the road and opened heavy fire as his convoy passed through the area. The police escort immediately returned fire, with the exchange continuing for around 20 minutes.
Langau said such attacks would not intimidate the government or security forces and vowed that operations against militants would continue.
The incident comes amid continued militant activity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces, government officials and civilians have repeatedly been targeted.
The editorial also alleges that militant groups operating in Pakistan receive support and resources from elements based in Afghanistan and India, claims that have been repeatedly made by Pakistani authorities.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated their resolve to eliminate terrorism and praised the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies for their efforts against militant groups.
