KANPUR: Several players from the Australia A cricket team fell ill due to food poisoning after consuming contaminated food at a hotel in Kanpur during their tour of India.

According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred last week following the team’s match against India A. After the game, the Australian players had dinner at their hotel, following which several members of the squad suffered severe food poisoning.

Fast bowler Henry Thornton was hospitalized for two days, while three other players also fell ill. The team’s management lodged a formal complaint with the hotel administration regarding the poor quality of food served to the players.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the quality of food and accommodation arrangements provided to international teams during their stay in India.

Meanwhile, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla dismissed claims that the food was to blame for the illness, stating that if the food had been contaminated, players from both teams would have been affected.

Despite the setback, India A, led by Shreyas Iyer, defeated Australia A by two wickets in the third and final ODI at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, winning the three-match series 2–1.
