LAHORE: Following the complete booking of rooftops for the Basant festival, the trend of booking Dholchis (traditional drummers) has also increased. Citizens are willing to pay up to 8,000 to 10,000 rupees per hour for the services of Dholchis during the festival.

The demand for Dholchis has skyrocketed during this year’s Basant, making their services nearly impossible to find. The hourly booking system for Dholchis across Lahore has taken everyone by surprise. Locals say that the presence of rooftops and the rhythmic beats of the Dhol (drum) add a unique charm to the festivities, enhancing the overall excitement of the celebration.

Dholchis themselves have expressed that they are fully entitled to capitalize on the season’s demand, given the special nature of the festival. Despite many residents booking rooftops for large sums, they are still eager to pay high amounts for the Dholchi’s services, highlighting the integral role of music in making the festival more vibrant.
