WASHINGTON: A bill aimed at restricting the development of artificial intelligence has been introduced in the US Senate, with lawmakers proposing international agreements to prevent the unchecked development of superintelligent AI.

The legislation calls for global cooperation and treaties to stop the creation of potentially uncontrolled superintelligence, according to the report.

Senator Bernie Sanders said uncontrolled artificial intelligence poses a threat to human freedom and security.

Congressman Greg Casar also criticised the current regulatory framework, saying artificial intelligence is less regulated than a food truck.
