OTTAWA: Canadian police have stated that the notorious Bishnoi gang, known for extortion and violent crimes, carries out activities at the direction of the Indian government, according to a newly released report by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The report highlights the gang’s growing presence in Canada and describes the Bishnoi gang as a violent criminal organization involved in a wide range of serious offenses, including extortion, drug trafficking, money laundering, and contract killings.
According to the RCMP assessment, the Bishnoi gang has not only expanded its criminal network internationally but has also allegedly undertaken operations linked to the interests of the Indian state.
The report raises concerns over the gang’s role in transnational organized crime and its potential implications for Canada’s national security.
Previously, British Columbia Premier David Eby had also called on the Canadian federal government to designate the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization, a demand he made in January last year amid rising concerns over organized crime and violence.
Canadian authorities say they continue to monitor the gang’s activities closely as part of broader efforts to counter organized crime and ensure public safety.
