NEW DELHI: At least 17 workers are reported dead after an explosion occurred in a firecracker factory in Gujarat, India.

According to Indian media, the explosion took place in a firecracker factory in the Banaskantha district of the Indian state of Gujarat, killing at least 17 people and injuring several others. The cause of the blast could not be known immediately.

Indian media reports indicate that the fire broke out in the factory following the explosion, and around 30 workers were present at the time of the incident.

According to Indian media, the factory owner fled after the incident, and police investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
