QUETTA: A powerful explosion at a Milad procession near a mosque in Mastung area of Balochistan on Friday left at least 52 people dead, including a deputy superintendent of police.
The blast ripped through the crowd as they took out a Miladun Nabi procession from a mosque.
The procession of hundreds of people was took out from Madina mosque. As the procession reached Al Falah road a suicide bomber attacked it, the deputy commissioner of Mastung Abdul Razaq Sasoli said.
At least 52 people were dead and over 100 injured in the incident, the deputy commissioner of Mastung confirmed to the media.
He said local people earlier gathered at the Madina mosque to take out a Milad procession. The dead and injured were being shifted to hospitals of the town by local people and police and an emergency has been declared in the hospitals.
The deputy commissioner said the condition of some of the injured was critical and the death toll nay increase.
Police and law enforcement agencies personnel cordoned off the area and were collecting evidence from the blast site.
So far, no terror outfit has announced responsibility for the mayhem.
The blast has sent shockwaves throughout the country and dampened the zeal of Eid Miladun Nabi celebrations.
