A boat carrying illegal migrants, mostly Pakistanis, capsized near an island in the south of Greece on Saturday killing five people. The Greek Coast Guard said that 39 migrants were rescued from the boat while 40 others were missing.

A foreign news agency said that most of the illegal migrants trying to reach Europe in the boat were from Pakistan. Rescue personnel were making efforts to trace and save the missing migrants, however, the possibility looked grim.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in a press release in Islamabad expressed shock over the incident involving Pakistanis who were trying to reach Europe while using illegal means. The minister ordered an investigation and formed a committee headed by an additional secretary interior with a direction to file a report in five days.

The minister said that human smuggling was a crime and gangs involved in this illegal business have caused death of hundreds of people. He said that the crackdown against human smugglers should be intensified across the country.
