British lawmaker arrested on charge of raping minor

LONDON: Labour Member of Parliament in Brittain Dan Norris has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual offenses involving a minor.

According to a foreign news agency, police raided Norris’s home and arrested him on suspicion of rape and sexual crimes against a minor.

Police stated that certain items were also seized during the raid on his residence, and the party has suspended him.

A Labour Party spokesperson said that investigations are ongoing and they cannot comment further at this time.

Norris has previously worked as a teacher and child protection officer. A complaint was received against him in December 2024, and most of the alleged incidents occurred in the 2010s.

It is worth noting that the 65-year-old Dan Norris was elected MP from North East Somerset in 2024. He defeated high-profile Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg. Dan Norris has also served as a junior minister in Gordon Brown’s cabinet.
