ISLAMABAD: The caretaker federal cabinet has approved the jail trial of former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan and vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case.
In this regard, a summary was submitted by the minister of law and justice which was sent to the cabinet members and approved through circulation.
Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi are in the Adiala jail in connection with the cipher case. Last week, the Islamabad High Court declated the jail trial of the former prime minister in the cipher case as illegal.
However, Imran was not presented before the special court in the judicial complex of Islamabad two days ago and the jail authorities submitted a report to the judge citing security concerns.
It was later decided that the trial would continue in the jail but it would be open not in camera proceedings.
The federal cabinet has already approved the jail trial of Imran Khan in the 190 million pound Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.
The former prime minister was arrested in the Toshakhana case on August 5 this year, after being sentenced to three years in jail. However, the Islamabad High Court later suspended the sentence in this case.
