Carney said Canada had sought cooperation from India during the investigation into Nijjar’s killing and stressed that security cooperation would be necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Canadian prime minister also said he could not guarantee that an India-linked criminal incident would not occur again in Canada.

Nijjar was killed in British Columbia in June 2023. His killing became a major source of diplomatic tensions between Canada and India.

Canadian authorities have previously said that the investigation into the case remains ongoing, while several individuals have been charged in connection with Nijjar’s killing.

The allegations surrounding India’s involvement have been strongly disputed by New Delhi.
