PESHAWAR: Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice (r) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah has taken strict notice of the alleged killing of a girl on the decision of a jirga in Kohistan.
He directed the additional chief secretary home to take necessary steps for an immediate inquiry into the incident and submit a report. He also directed the inspector general of police to take concrete steps for immediate arrest of all those involved in the incident and made it clear that no one could be allowed to take the law into one’s own hands.
Rule of law and justice would be ensured at all costs, he remarked. Mr Shah also directed the quarters concerned to ensure all necessary measures in order to provide full protection to the fellow girl of the slain.
According to media report, a young girl was killed allegedly on the orders of a jirga in Kohistan. The victim was one of two girls who were seen dancing with local boys in a video that went viral on social media, said Masood Khan, the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in Kolai-Palas, according to the report. This incident brings back painful memories of the deaths of around five girls in the same area in 2011.
