Caretaker govt makes major increase in petrol price

Increase announced a week before general elections in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government announced a major increase in the prices of petroleum products on Wednesday night.

According to a notification, petrol price has been increased by 13.55 rupees while that of diesel 2.75 rupees.

It may be noted that the government changes petroleum products prices after every 15 days. On January 15, the caretaker government had announced a reduction of about eight rupees in the price of petrol.

The huge increase in the petrol prices will further hit the citizens already hit hard by rising inflation.

The increase has been made even though the value of dollar against the rupee has been decreasing in the recent months.
