China Expresses Sympathy Over Devastating Floods in Pakistan

BEIJING: China has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating floods in Pakistan and the resulting loss of life and property.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured, expressing confidence that the Pakistani people will overcome the disaster and recover swiftly.

The ministry’s spokesperson added that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed his condolences to his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar.

The spokesperson also noted that the Chinese embassy in Pakistan is monitoring the welfare of Chinese citizens in the country. So far, no Chinese nationals have been reported dead or injured in the floods.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), heavy rains, landslides, and floods since June 26 have claimed the lives of over 650 people, with the official death toll currently standing at 657.
