BEIJING: China has taken a significant step toward promoting peace in the Middle East by appointing a special envoy to mediate regional conflicts.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephonic discussions with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates regarding the latest developments in the region.
Minister Wang Yi stated that China will send its special representative to the Middle East to play a mediating role and praised Saudi Arabia’s position on resolving disputes peacefully.
He emphasized that civilian protection should remain a red line in all conflicts and that attacks on energy infrastructure and non-military targets should be avoided.
He also highlighted the importance of keeping maritime routes safe for navigation.
