Chinese ambassador’s remarks surprising: FO

Spokesperson says statement of China's ambassador does not reflect cordial ties between two countries.

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Thursday stated that the recent statement of the Chinese ambassador in Pakistan was surprising.

In a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that the statement of the ambassador did not reflect the spirit of relationship between Pakistan and China that was an embodiment of confidence and mutual respect.

It was be noted that according to media reports the ambassador had stated that Pakistan and China could jointly launch an operation against terrorists.

The statement was related to security of Chinese nationals working in a large number on different projects under CPEC.

The Foreign Office spokesperson today said that the Chinese government had repeatedly been assured that stringent measures were in place for the security of the Chinese workers in Pakistan.

During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also assured the Chinese prime minister that he was personally monitoring the security issue.

Pakistan has been taking stringent measures for the security of the Chinese nationals. It is believed that Chinese workers were targeted in Pakistan by enemies of the country who want to sabotage not only the CPEC projects but also the deep-rooted relationship between Pakistan and China.
