Chinese diplomat highlights enduring Pak-China ties at 74th anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Counsellor Wang Shengjie of the Chinese embassy in Pakistan shed light on the enduring and resilient ties between China and Pakistan during a special event here.

The event was organized by the China-Pakistan Study Centre (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), commemorating the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Speaking on behalf of the Chinese embassy, Mr. Wang emphasized that the Pakistan-China relationship has withstood the test of time and regional challenges. He reaffirmed China’s unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and development in the region, underscoring the significance of working closely with Pakistan to promote connectivity and economic growth. Mr. Wang also highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a cornerstone of shared development, expressing confidence in the partnership’s ability to deliver tangible benefits to the region.

Director General ISSI, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, lauded the Pakistan-China relationship as a “model of inter-state relations,” grounded in strategic mutual trust, respect, and support. He noted that the bilateral bond has evolved into an All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and continues to play a vital role in promoting peace and stability in South Asia.

Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, former Foreign Secretary, echoed these sentiments, praising the iron-clad partnership as one marked by mutual trust and consistent support on core national interests. She commended China’s development journey and highlighted the close coordination between the two nations on multilateral platforms.

Former Ambassador to China, Masood Khalid, described the bilateral relationship as a deep-rooted and visionary partnership. Recalling milestones such as the Karakoram Highway, he emphasized the leadership and people-to-people connections that have shaped the enduring alliance.

Ambassador Khalid Mahmood reflected on the historical depth of the partnership, recalling China’s steadfast support during critical junctures in Pakistan’s history. He reaffirmed that the bond, famously described as “higher than mountains and deeper than oceans,” continues to grow stronger.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony symbolizing the warmth and festive spirit surrounding the Pakistan-China friendship.
