COAS, UN chief discuss Kashmir, Gaza conflicts

Gen Asim Munir says UN should play its role in ensuring ceasefire in Gaza without further delay.

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir reached New York from Washington during his ongoing US visit and visited the United Nations headquarters.

According to the ISPR, General Asim Munir met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and discussed with him the Gaza and Kashmir issues. 

The army chief be told the UN secretary general that the issue of Kashmir was on the agenda of the world forum and without its resolution in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiris as promised in the Security Council resolutions peace would remain elusive in South Asia.

He said Pakistan condemns unilateral attempts by India to change the status of the disputed territory, adding these attempts were against the spirit of the Security Council resolutions.

The army chief also reiterated Pakistan’s stance on the Palestine issue and asked the UN chief to play his role for ensuring immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

UNSG warmly welcomed the visit by the COAS and appreciated the contributions made by Pakistan Army and contingents of the Law Enforcement Agencies who have remained committed to the peace and stability of the world,” said a statement.

COAS reaffirmed Pakistan’s continuous support to the United Nations in all its earnest efforts.

The UNSG acknowledged the concerns and thanked General Syed Asim Munir for the visit to the UN Headquarters.
