Thousands of people, including actors Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah and singer-composer Vishal Dadlani, reportedly participated in a protest against the Election Commission in Mumbai.

The protest, organised by the CJP, called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning voter lists.

Despite police reportedly denying permission for the demonstration, a large number of people gathered at Shivaji Park. Following the announcement of the Jail Bharo movement, police and paramilitary personnel were deployed at Jantar Mantar.

CJP founder Abhijit Dipke alleged that the names of 130 million voters had been removed from electoral rolls. He said that if Gyanesh Kumar did not resign, the organisation would expand its protests from Mumbai to other cities across India.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed concern that efforts were allegedly underway to remove another five million voters from electoral rolls.
