ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), a subsidiary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of seven universities from Gaza and Palestine.

The agreement aims to promote collaboration in higher education and scientific research across the Muslim world.

The MoU was formally signed in Islamabad by COMSTECH Coordinator General, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, and Professor Ayman Subh, President of Al-Aqsa University.

The participating universities in the consortium are Al-Aqsa University, University of Palestine, Al-Azhar University, Islamic University of Gaza, Gaza University, Israa University, and Al-Quds Open University.

According to the agreement, both parties will engage in joint academic and research projects, organize training programs, and facilitate the exchange of faculty members and experts. The Gaza-based universities will also be integrated into the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence and the OIC Technology Portal, expanding their access to the broader research network within the Muslim world.

“This agreement will link Gaza’s universities with over 80 prominent institutions in OIC member states,” said Dr. Choudhary. “COMSTECH remains committed to supporting the academic and research revival of these institutions.”

A delegation of vice-chancellors from the Palestinian universities is currently visiting Pakistan at COMSTECH’s invitation. During their visit, they are exploring collaborative opportunities with universities in Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Lahore.
