Court suspends ECP order on PTI’s election symbol

Peshawar High Court says suspension will remain till a judgement on petition.

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday suspended the order of the Election Commission of Pakistan to take back the election symbol of’Bat’ from the PTI.

A single bench of the court, comprising Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel, took up the petition of the PTI and suspended the decision of the ECP.

The court remarked that after the end of the vacation, a double bench will take up the petition and till its final judgement the order of the ECP will remain suspended.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Dec 22 on a petition removed Bat as the election symbol of the PTI saying it had failed to hold the recent intra-party election in accordance with its constitution.

The PTI in its petition filed in PHC sought back its election symbol with the plea that the court may declare the ECP ruling as illegal.
