RAHIM YAR KHAN: Dacoits hiding in the kutcha area of Rahim Yar Khan fired rockets on two vehicles of the police, martyring 12 of the officials today.
According to the Punjab police, the two vehicles were stuck in rainwater in an area called Machka in the vicinity of Rahim Yar Khan when the criminals targetted them using rockets. As a result, 12 policemen were martyred and six others injured. There are also reports that some policemen have gone missing and are feared to have been kidnapped away by the criminals.
After the tragic incident, the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, directed the Home Secretary and the Inspector General of Police to reach the area and supervise an operation against the criminals hiding in the kuctha area.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have condemned the incident and ordered strict action and an operation to clear the area of the criminals.
Forest and desert areas in Sindh and Punjab called kutcha areas are infested with criminals who have sophisticated and heavy weapons. They usually kidnap people, including police personnel, and release them after taking heavy ransom.
Despite police efforts and operations conducted against them off and on, these areas could not be cleared of the dacoits. It’s intriguing that how these criminals get such heavy weapons and go scot-free after carrying out heinous crimes.
