ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, where the two leaders reviewed the evolving regional situation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the meeting underscored the close, brotherly and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran. Both foreign ministers exchanged views on regional developments and reiterated their resolve to further enhance cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
During the talks, Dar expressed deep concern over the recent regional tensions and stressed the importance of dialogue among all parties to promote peace and stability. He emphasized that restraint, de-escalation and sustained diplomatic engagement remain essential for addressing regional challenges and preventing further instability.
The Foreign Office said the two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and reviewed progress on existing areas of collaboration.
Dar highlighted the need for the effective implementation of the understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), emphasizing that timely execution of agreed initiatives would help further expand cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The meeting took place on the margins of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers session, where member states are discussing regional security, economic cooperation and connectivity ahead of the organisation’s upcoming summit.
Pakistan and Iran maintain close diplomatic, economic and security ties and have continued high-level engagements in recent months to enhance cooperation and coordinate on regional issues. The latest meeting reflects both countries’ commitment to maintaining regular diplomatic contacts and working together to address shared regional challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
