NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will chair a high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) briefing focused on strengthening cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The deputy prime minister arrived in the US to attend the high-level signature events of Pakistan’s UN Security Council (UNSC) Presidency as well as for certain engagements in Washington.

He was received at the airport by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador to the US Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and others, Radio Pakistan reported.

The meeting, held under Pakistan’s presidency of the UNSC for July, aims to enhance collaboration in conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding across the Muslim world and beyond.

The initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy and its role in promoting global peace and security.

In addition, he will attend a high-level conference on the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution”, where Pakistan will reiterate its call for a sovereign Palestinian state.

The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and senior UN officials during his visit to New York.
