KABUL: The death toll from the earthquake that hit western Afghanistan a day earlier has crossed 2,000 figure with authorities in the affected area trying to couple with the situation.
The 6.3 magnitude tremors badly affected the city of Herat where most of the casualties have been reported.
According to the authorities, over 1,500 people have also been injured and hospitals in the area are facing issues to treat them.
Moreover, 600 houses in different districts have been damaged due to which iver 4,000 people are affected and need emergency help as they are living under the open sky.
According to reports, over 10 aftershocks were felt in the area and one official said the local people were in shock and feared more destruction.
Humanitarian organizations have called for emergency operations to reach out to the people needing help.
